Poverty is enduring problem, even in modern, developed societies like canada. It is unsettling to see the increases for a number of key poverty indicators. However, poverty as a policy or political issue remains contentious. Different interpretations, priorities, and perspectives make it difficult to address the issue. Analysts with different political agendas can drastically reduce or inflate poverty figures, and it is questionable whether or not we can use a calculator to determine who is poor and who is not. Poverty may seem like a straightforward issue, but it is an area of serious debate. Before analyzing poverty trends, it is necessary to realize that most of the talk about poverty is actually about inequality. Most canadians enjoy a standard of living well above majority of people in developing countries. Canadian society has certain internal standards determining what makes for an acceptable living standard. A vast gap between rich and poor in canada is widely documented.
