Problem with coming out of the closet is that you have to do it over and over. Everyone has closets, they are simply hard conversations . How to live: 1 be authentic (don"t wear armour, 2 be direct (be straight up, 3 be unapologetic. Goffman"s common attributes of stigmatized diseases: the person with the illness is seen as responsible for having it, the disease is progressive and incurable, the disease in not well understood, the symptoms cannot be concealed. Used to study different examples of things we are experiencing and why it occurs. Only by looking at the more serious deviations do we truly enter the realm of secondary deviance. Difficult to forget from a learning perspective, they are interesting, engaging and easy to remember. It is important to study reaction of those who evaluate the deviant behaviour: the more extreme the deviant, the more observable the reaction.
