Hard to get the community in 50/50. Reducing crime: weak positive evidence: some positive findings, some neutral, no negative. Improving police community relations and community perceptions: strong positive evidence, almost all positive findings, minimal neutral, no negative . Increasing community capacity: unknown: this is a gap in the evidence. Changing police officers" attitudes and behaviour: fairly strong positive evidence on attitudes, mixed evidence on behaviour. There is a split, some cops think its great, others think its crap. They don"t want to spend resources on stuff that"s not guaranteed to work. Getting citizens involved in the prevention of crime. People believe it is effective in reducing crime. Stats show that it only reduces crime for 16 to 26 percent: but when screening out cameras, lighting etc the numbers drop.
