- Theodora, “actress” (double as prostitute), she was lower class, not supposed to
be empresses, he meets her, falls in love, convinces his uncle (emperor at time) to
change laws, can marry who you want, he chooses her
- She is v influencial, strong intellectual, got him out of lots of shit b/c she’s great,
persuades him to stay in city and ride out riots and it works
