Document Summary

Lecture 18 - feminist streams, feminist theories: third world postcolonial, Theory is fundamentally about knowing the world in which we live. Feminist theories have been working to help us challenge who gets to know; challenge the way that dead white men have been positioned as knowers. We expand these challenges and look at global feminism which challenge white supremacy, colonization, and ethnocentrism. The first world is often extracting resources of the third world. There are certain implications to the other places that are developing. Sometimes the way we conceptualize global differences is limited. This reinforces existing relationships of power and privilege because this language is determined by those in a powerful position. These terms do not refer to geographic locations (i. e. global south and global north) Allows feminists to describe locations of inequality (i. e. high income and consumption in the north and the reverse in the south) These trends and pattern can be present in any country.
