Way to express and control the feelings that were experiencing. Proof of sanity even though it results in violence to ones own body. Founded on idea that women like pain. They supposed to feel pain in child birth. Women who didn"t want to be hurt were seen as rejecting their natures. Women who want to hurt but not be hurt weren"t conforming to gender roles. Pain from trauma is a central experience for those who siv.
