About courtesy, they expect you to respect their journal. Read a copy from library before you submit. Rather a quality 2,000 word fiction piece than 8,000 etc. Look for themed issues (more limited pool) Avoid simultaneous submissions (unless allowed) does not go over well. Do not submit multiple genres in one submission (poetry, fiction, non-fiction) indicate which one you"re sending. Directly address the editor for your genre. Wait for the prescribed period of time; write a polite enquiry if you pass the prescribed time (after 1-6 months) Submit during reading periods (look for submission times in year) Upon possible rejection, at least look for some feedback. How does a submission cover letter differ from a job application. Demonstrate that you"ve read the journal, and have been influenced by work or authors in that magazine.
