AN100 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Cultural Relativism, Sociocultural Anthropology
Document Summary
In my aspect i have always perceived objectivity and morality to be fluid throughout the years as generations evolve. I have always thought of morality and objectivity to be a concept which is implemented by the society you are being raised in. I had grown up in a pakistani-muslim household. Which has allowed me to be more understanding of other cultures and religions because they are synonymous to mine. But there are some instances where i am shocked to see some cultural practices (cid:449)hi(cid:272)h do (cid:374)ot alig(cid:374) (cid:449)ith (cid:373)i(cid:374)e or so(cid:272)ieties (cid:271)eliefs. Whi(cid:272)h i(cid:374)e(cid:448)ita(cid:271)ly pai(cid:374)ts the(cid:373) as (cid:858)(cid:374)ot fa(cid:373)iliar(cid:859) or (cid:858)u(cid:374)a(cid:272)(cid:272)epta(cid:271)le(cid:859). This specific area of the textbook discusses taking the route of a more critical cultural relativist viewpoint. This is in order to have an enhanced apprehension of the cultures you are surrounded with in your daily life. This has also raised the discussion from nancy scheper-hughes.
