Poliical anthropology study of poliical and social power and their organizaions in diferent socieies. Classifying types of poliical systems and their characterisics (early 20th century) Impacts of modernizaion, globalizaion on tradiional pre-state communiies. Poliics was interconnected with kinship, subsistence, religion, economics, hence must be studied holisically. Leaders existed whose authority was ascribed or achieved, formal, or informal. Power and authority did not necessarily lead to more wealth for those in posiions of power. Success as leader depended on generosity and not wealth accumulaion. Process for making and carrying out public policy i. e. , the guidelines for acion. Public refers to the group of people afected by poliics. Means (insituions, pracices) used by society to: maintain order, regulate the behaviour of members, manage intergroup relaions. This involves: decision making, social control via internal (fear, guilt) or external sancions dispute resoluion. Takes the form of positive: rewards and negative (punishments), formal: law (external) or informal: community disapproval shaming (internal via socializaion fear, guilt)
