Constantine finally joined his father in ad 306. Constantius died in ad 306 at york; constantine named emperor by the army. Accepted title of caesar in favour of flavius severus. At rome maximian"s son, maxentius, declared himself augustuc: soon had flavius severus killed. In ad 308, galerius met with diocletian and maximian. Agreed to appoint man named licinius as severus" replacement: constantine would be his ceasar. Most of the current tetrarchs despised eachother. Maximian died in ad 310, diocletian in ad 312. Constantine soon claimed descent from claudius gothicus (emperor ad 268 270) Meant he could assert sole right to the throne.
