BF199 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Panopticism, Sigmund Freud, Death Drive
Document Summary
He is a radical critique of the modern world - doesn"t like the structures that we have built. Saying these are the paths that we solon"t take and the things that we shouldn"t do. Religion, economy, etc. are things that should be confronted and questioned. When rules are bodied in governments that aren"t completely embodied in the people this isn"t good. It isn"t hard to take on the position of there aren"t any facts, just interpretation but this is a bit simplistic - there are some facts. Just like nitzche, he doesn"t want to do a history of how we think, but wants to start over thinking outside the main stream - this is his approach. When he looks at history he sees brutality towards anyone who isn"t normal. If you don"t fall in line with what is normal, we try to get you to t the mould of society.
