Document Summary

Freud, sigmund civilization and its discontents, parts iii, v, vii Founding father of psychoanalysis (a method for treating psychopathy, a dialogical treatment between patient and psychoanalyst), sometimes called a talking cure. Psychoanalysis deals with psychological issues by arguing that people want to talk out their problems. By talking things out the conflicts and issues in one"s inner life are released. 1938 he had to flee the nazis, for he was jewish and his views were contested by them. As the inventor of psychoanalysis, freud"s great discovery is the unconscious: The fact that as human beings we have thoughts, motivations, and desires of which we are unaware, that nonetheless govern our behavior. This text is addressed to the discontents those who believe that society itself is to be blamed for all of our troubles, and that we should return to some pre-social state that would allow us to be much happier.
