Communication climate: verbal elements, nonverbal elements, listening elements, aspects of relational dynamics. Exist on a continuum from confirming to disconfirming: most fall in the middle of the extremes. The best climate for success is a confirming one, agreeing and confirming are not the same thing. When others disconfirm us: we feel discounted and less content. Relationships hardly ever more form one extreme to the other. Recognition: most basic form is to recognize the existence of another, non-verbal; verbal. Acknowledgment: a deeper level, their thoughts, their feelings, acknowledge thoughts verbally and non-verbally. Irrelevant responses are disconfirming: disconfirm by not acknowledging. It takes time to determine what any given person will take" as confirming vs disconfirming: smile when you"re supposed, to, nod your head. Endorsement: accepting another"s feelings or thoughts as valid, don"t reject the validity of any feeling . unless, hard when you are trying to be honest, highest form of confirmation is acceptance.
