Other personality concepts: locus of control, self-monitoring, self-esteem, positive and negative affectivity, proactive personality, general self-efficacy, core self- evaluations. People have a variety of personality characteristics. Raises the questions of whether personality can change over one"s life time. All of these questions are variations on the basic nature versus nurture debate: is personality a function of our genes, or is it something that we develop as a function of our experiences and surroundings. This debate rages through most areas of psychology. These studies have been conducted using twins and adopted children. Heredity sets the limits on the development of personality characteristics: however, where you fall in the range of your heredity scale depends mainly on your environment. Shared environment= nurture: family effects siblings share this experience.
