Document Summary

Class 21: global entrepreneur: startups now do business in many countries before dominating their home markets. Today"s entrepreneurs cross borders for two reasons 1) defensive to be competitive 2) take the offense: challenges start ups face when they are born global and the skills entrepreneurs need to tackle them. Key challenges: distance, new ventures usually lack the infrastructure to cope with disperses operations and faraway markets. Psychic distance cultural differences, languages etc: context, resources, nation"s political, regulatory, judicial, tax, environmental, and labor systems vary. The choices of entrepreneurs make will affect shareholder returns and also their ability to raise capital: customers expect startups (resource stretched ventures) to possess the skills and deliver the levels of quality that larger companies do. Traditional entrepreneurs established in home markets then expand abroad: new entrepreneurs born global competing internationally without the resources and experiences.
