Document Summary

These ones fall into that subjectivist theory. Who is deciding what is criminal and what is deviant. All conflict theory fit into this box. General model: conflict theory starts with control of law and society. Those who control law get to decide how things work in this society. Courts deal with more white collar than police. System deals with crime committed by the common people. Overall, even though we have laws that say business cannot commit crime, they do and it is often not enforced. Once you have a criminal label, you are not seen as as legitimate. Bigger picture: looking at things from a cultural perspective. Conduct norms: unwritten rules of how to behave: shared by the group that this is how we should behave, different groups may subscribe to different conduct norms. Culture that has homogeneity less conflict: all the same culture, you have one group that agrees by these conduct norms. Culture that has heterogeneity more conflict.
