Viewed the world and structure of society as being unequal. Status groups: social formations based on differences in status and lifestyle: group identity. Status relations: (not) economic or political, which is why it translates itself into the lives of young people so well. Important value: lifestyle (pattern of consumption, common symbols, rituals, and vocabulary) The way a group lives its lifestyle can affect how other groups see them. Through this lifestyle, they have a group identity. May or may not be spoken of, but it exists. Even though it can exist outside of class, class is an important element. Them being in school amplifies peer influence. Secondary school: complex, increased mobility & communication facilities. More freedom as a teenager than u do as a child. Space & territory: becomes segregated among status groups. Hallways, areas of the school (inside or outside) Particular groups are the only ones that tend to be in those places.
