Election
- First past the post
- EU has a proportional system
- NDP and Green wanted this, Liberal somewhat too
- We have a first past the post system
- USA is the same way
- Recognition for smaller parties can be possible through proportional
percentages
- Mixed member parliament: this failed miserably a few years ago at the
provincial level
- Conservative party will need to find a new head very soon, interesting to
see who it will be
- Liberals took over a lot of Malcare’s NDP ideas
- Different role for Canada: Environmental meeting in Paris in
approximately 6 months
What happened to the LEAP campaign?
Where was climate change?
- What does this say about what we’re reading and electoral politics?
- Have to understand the political sphere that we are involved in first
- First past the post system is very hard
- Climate change was nearly totally absent: too risky
- Excluded so many people and scared so many people
- Need to create conversation that they need to have meaningful jobs,
there’s lots of work to do for where we should be
- This may be a new avenue, to open talks
- LEAP died very quickly, a surprise
-Stephan Dion: Green and Liberal strategized, ran completely on a Green
platform, “The Green Shift” failed miserably
- Only have recovered from this now
- Seeing now within the mainstream: very little chance for what Klein is
talking about
