Document Summary
I call this peculiar form of self-hypnosis narcissus narcosis, a syndrome where- by man remains as unaware of the psychic and social effects of his new technology as a fish of the water it swims in. All media is extension of man himself. We don"t notice a media until a new innovation happens. Man is only aware of the environment when something new arises. The cellphone unaware that communication skills being hindered by cellphone because of lack of face to face communication. Technology as an extension of our own bodies. Can extend but can also bring it backwards (like during sports and wearing glasses) Texting is an extension of our communication, but shoes or glasses are extensions of our bodies. Technology could also be seen as more of a backdrop rather than an extension. Societies have always been shaped more by the nature of the media with which men (sic) communicate than by the content of the communication.
