Why do we thin of north at the top? when we think about north we think of it as up, and top we associate north with posiive, and south with down, botom negaive connotaion (good and evil) The us map agreed upon dimensions of border and has nothing to do with the existence of human beings. When we turn the map upside down it is a moment of recogniion reading against the trajectory of the printed material (moment of human consciousness that de-naturalizes the map. We learn to read from a very young age from let to right, reading words but also understanding words we are trained to work out the correct meaning for words we always analyzed texts. We are integrated into a way of reading that make us think when we are reading we are trying to unlock the authors intenions and hear what they intend us to hear.
