Food is a key marker of class, in terms of eating habits, food security and access to resources. People express their class norms and identity through foodways; people are also labelled into class categories according to their foodways. We make a series of complex assumptions based on the food choices and practices of others; class (and the hegemonic norms therein) is a major part of these assumptions.
