EN201 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Iron John, Red Riding
Document Summary
Huntsman acts as a kind of foil to the wolf b/c he is a good man who as well knows the wood as the wolf does. The wolf acts as the bad man who seduces girls and the huntsman acts as the saviour. He also represents traditional manhood; the grandmother and little red riding hood represent traditional womanhood. Little red riding hood doesn"t have a father. The mother and the grandmother were seen almost always at home. Christian reference in the story - there are reinforced christian ideas. The huntsman could be seen as a redeemer. The girl does something wrong but she could still be saved and redeemed herself by the huntsman. To show that she has learnt her previous lesson. Once you"ve been saved by the huntsman, the next time she saves herself. Enforcement to young girls that you have to do what you were told, or you would be in danger.
