Document Summary

Regions that receive moderate to high precipitation and not extremely cold temperatures are covered by the forest biome. Forest regions can be divided into tropical, temperate and polar (or boreal) forests. Tropical rainforests are found near the equator. Climates in these areas are quite predictable with little variation in temperature throughout the year. Rainfall is usually consistent as well although variations between seasons can occur. Describe the vegetation and forest characteristics of a tropical rainforest (see this link for more details of the vegetation cover). Broadleaf evergreen plants which keep their leaves year round. Huge trees form a dense canopy that blocks light from reaching forest floor. Plants at floor have huge leaves to caught light. Of all the biomes and vegetation types, the rainforest has the greatest vertical variations in life forms. The canopy of the rainforest is especially biodiverse and is the active zone of the forest where much of the solar energy is captured.
