Michael Matthews October 27, 2011 Uri Ram Glocommodification  Uri is a sociologist- (Ben Gurion University). Author of The globalization of Israel.  What is localization? In what ways does the global expansion of McDonald‟s also have an opposite effect?  Why does Ram think it is possible to reconcile globalization and localization?  He is asking. “does globalization lead to universal cultural uniformity or does it leave room for particularism and cultural diversity?  Answer “Locally, symbolically, becomes a specimen of the global structurally.” Simply put, globalization does not take over the local, but restructures it.  Traditional and local cultures do not diminish with Mcdonaldization. Instead, they take on global ways of doing and thereby reshape and reform those traditions.
