Absolute: benchmark: food costs and caloric intake, poverty as failure to meet basic needs: food, clothing and shelter. Relative poverty: in relationship to members of same society. Moderate ( 1- 2 dollars daily) extreme (>1. 25 a day) Development as: expansion of human capabilities and freedom. Development as more than economic growth, infrastructure, education and health: all need. To work in pursuit of the goal to make the individuals free. Freedom as ability to do what i choose. Resources are not enough if it is not what people value. Negative freedom: might have resources but no freedom to pursue chosen future.
