HN210 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Femoral Artery, Umbilical Vein, Femoral Triangle
Document Summary
Causes limited/cut off blood flow to heart. Suture in a new vessel to re-route the blood flow around the blockage. High plaque build up, reduced flow to a region. Insert a stent into aorta to r/l coronary artery to wherever the blockage is. Deflates balloon & leaves a stent behind which keeps vessel expanded. When balloon is inflated, plaque gets pushed out of the way. Vessel walls expnd (creates a bulge in the wall) Traditional pathway: through femoral artery (located from femoral triangle) Femoral external iliac descending aorta arch of aorta r/l coronary - blockage. Important info: the fetus does not acquire oxygen through its lungs. It acquires oxygen from the mother via the placenta: the lungs and all the chambers of the heart do still need to develop. Circulation development: begins in the third week of gestation, first heart beat in the fourth week of gestation.
