Buccaneers: english, dutch, or french raiders who preyed on the spanish during the seventeenth century. Buccaneers softened referred to as the confederation of pirates. Swashbuckler: twentieth century term for pirate in literature and film. Pirate: someone who robs from others at sea and who acts beyond the law, regardless of nationality. First record of pirates occurred in modern day turkey. Egyptians received reports that the lukkans were illegally robbing people at sea. This group disappeared from record at around 1220 bce: sea peoples - 1220-1886bce. Argued that bronzed age caused fall of mycenaeans.
