Sport for disabled has been available for more than 100 years. Post ww2, sir ludwig guttmann worked with war vets suffering from spinal cord injuries. This was a request of the government of england. Sport was rst used as part of a rehab program, then to recreation, then to competitive sport. So successful that they started to do it outside of rehab, they just liked it. Guttmann organized in 1948 stoke mandeville games (thats where they were held) coinciding with the london olympics. 1960 - 1st paralympic games after rome olympics (400 athletes, 23 countries) 1976 - canada held its rst paralympics coinciding with the montreal olympics. Current;y plagued by similar issues such as traditional olympic games (di=oping, schematic cheating) Ways of cheating for the paralympic athletes. Stimulating various ways, by plugging catheters for the having to pee sensation, smashing hammers on paralyzed parts of their bodies. They don"t feel anything, but it improves their performance.
