Had to come a month before because they would need to travel, and they needed the moonlight of a full moon to keep them safe. Athletes traveled together to olympia, which took two days (it was in the middle of nowhere) First happened in the year 776 bc, only one event. Competed naked - gender veri cation, beauty in the body. If you won, you get an olive branch. If you won, you were treated like a hero at home. 8 years of wages as a prize, cushy job, free meals . Spartans dominated, 46/81 known victors were spartans.
