KP161 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Instructional Design
Document Summary
All learner have unique preference for receiving and processing info. Should incorporate instructional strategies for all types of learners. Learning facilitate when big picture presented prior to details. Prefer info presented in step-by-step sequential manner enroute to main concept. The way information is received and processed = preferred perceptual mode. Four types of learners, based on preferred perceptual mode (modal strength): visual (cue words = see, kinesthetic (feel of movement, analytic (problem solve, auditory (sounds and rhythms) Learning styles shift based on whether task is cognitive or motor. Use various assessments to discover a learners prefered style. Then, make an effort to incorporate strategies from other styles. Learning a new skill, or performing a skill under new conditions, can be influenced by past experiences. Cumulative past experiences influence one"s ability to learn new skills both positively and negatively. Positive: past experience with one skill facilitates learning a new skill. Negative: past experience with one skill hinders learning new skill.
