Ozone layer: protects us from direct exposure to the sun, nitrous oxides mixing with materials containing chlorofluorocarbons cfc are progressively thinning the ozone layer material in plastics and styrofoam, sources of nitrous oxide, propellant in aerosol cans. Water pollution: pathogens, biological imbalances, toxic substances, other. Pathogens: refers to living, biological organisms like bacteria, viruses, protozoa, enter water system thru human and animal wastes, ex. E coli in water in watertown, cryptosporidium in grand river. Toxic substances: refers specifically to non-bio, non- living substances, consumed by fish in water system, and then ingested by humans a cycle. Includes toxins metals, chems like ddt weed killer, polychlorinated biphenyls pcbs. Others: oil spills can set on fire while on top of water, thermal pollution, sediments leftover gunk. 3: petition signed to get gov"s attention, biggest employer in hope, bc, non polluting, good corp citizen why would they volunteer to pay more.
