Iwd = individuals with disabilities, qol = quality of life: asd = autism spectrum disorder, ds = down syndrome. Iwd can benefit greatly from engaging in pa: can decrease the risk of cvc, lipid disorders, metabolic disorders, those that do participate in leisure activities. Iwd are still relatively inactive: 25. 6% of iwd were inactive during an average week, vs. 12. 8% of typical developing individuals, 12% of iwd participated in pa more than 5x week for at least 30min per day. In canada alone 160,500 individuals aged 15+ were identified as having a developmental disability (dd) in 2012: ex. more with asd = greater awareness, change in criteria, 17,090 children aged 0-4, 53,740 children aged 5-14.
