Distress: stress that can have a detrimental e ect on health. Ie) taking an exam, or not paying monthly bills. Eustress: stress that can present opportunities for personal growth. Ie) planing a wedding, major event or a rst date. Acute stress: short-term physiological response to an immediate perceived threat. Ie) some cuts in front of us on the freeway, Chronics stress: ongoing state of physiological arousal in response to ongoing or numerous perceived threats. Ie) rst few days of a new job. Two divisions make up the autonomic system. Parasympathetic: in control when you are relaxed. Relaxation, food digestion, stores energy, promotes growth.
