Ol 140 - oc2: lecture: week of january 3rd 2018. Early views of leadership focused on that the person at the top of the organization chart was the leader and everybody else followed. Leadership is being seen increasingly as something that is needed to be seen by all organizational members, not just those who are traditionally leaders. Leadership involves a relationship with others, almost everyone has the potential to demonstrate leadership. Context plays an important role in determining leader effectiveness. In other words, the best leadership approach is one that fits the situation that the leader and followers find themselves in. In early leadership studies, it was thought that a select group of individuals were born with traits that made them great leaders. Leadership was the domain of men, marked by mythical and heroic sense of destiny. The search for those traits and individuals with those traits began.
