Indian music in persia (800-1000: emotional, full of history, impacted them because they are from india, khalifate (arab-muslim empire, wars: birth of new social forms, new identity: roma or zott (from different social classes) First eastern europe: enslaved: labor force (horseshoes, weapons) Egypt: roma and the empire, egypt: its importance, convert to islam, many settled, farmers, connection: language and music. Image of the roma romanticized not realistic: about smiley faces and good music. Zott vs. nomads (in india: both find music important, different instruments, zott have homes, fancier clothes, larger community, hierarchy strong in india.
