I believe that both the nhl and the nba are biased in their treatment towards people of colour. The nhl is comprised of few black and is made up of mainly white coaches, officials, and sponsors. This lack of diversity in the administrators is reflected directly on the treatment of players of colour. White players are given control over their attire. For example, ray emery was urged to not wear his mask that displayed a picture of mike tyson. They claimed the reason was because mike tyson was a rapist and abuser or women, not because he was black. However, the nhl did not go as far to condemn all acts of sexual abuse from its own players. Reid a convicted felon of sexual assault and former nhl star was allowed to play on the ice and even given a scholarship when he himself was a sexual abuser. This example demonstrates how the nhl rules for both races differ incredibly.
