MU100 Lecture 24: community music nov 29
Document Summary
Society has, in many ways, lost its sense of musicality. Society doesn"t appreciate music the way it used to. We study community music to place emphasis on how music affects society. This stream focuses on the way music is an interactive tool. We believe music is for everyone rather than those who can afford access to it. Music is often a response to social contexts. We sing about what goes on around us. Music is a way to express, not just a money-based industry. The only school in canada that offers a degree in community music is wilfrid laurier. Community music started as a reaction against exclusive culture of high music . Because it was a reactionary music, it was based in a lack of access to music. People rebelled against music only being allowed in the hands of aristocratic people. These people did not necessarily have access to lessons.
