Business and robber barons: america in the gilded age. Robber barons got rich and their intellect put them ahead. Gilded age got its name from mark twain. Immigrants thought the streets were pave with gold because of all of the opportunity. Attention was returned to the new west after the civil war (1861-1865) and during the post- Civil war nation building period known as reconstruction (1865-1877).
