Ethics of Care  Virtue ethics tradition – emphasizes moral character  Female – more complete than male character o Women have a different moral voice that is unique from men  Nature vs. nurture? – unclear  Relational, contextual, etc.  Women: motivated by care, relationship, responsibility – lead to different moral practices  Existing moral theories – embodies male bias – excludes women’s voices  Theory – dominate o Women tend to fall below the lower realm of universal laws o Piage: Rules that are learned through game o Colburg: enhanced by various opportunities of competition from game (ex. Conflict)  Sees highest stage of development in men (women, lower stage) – moral development o Girls learn less because they participate in less competitions  They engage in more cooperative enterprises o Boys are more independent  They know how to deal with conflict o Mothers influence a child’s growth  Boys: differentiate – they learn that their mothers are not like them  Girl
