Document Summary

Most important law lecture chapter 10 & 11. Would not have been able to get warrant. While all students were in class and were told to put their backpacks in lockers then dogs went around sniffing. If students came in late their backpacks had to go to the gym. Dog sniffed drugs in a backpack in the gym. Went to supreme court: is dog sniffing a search, was it reasonable, if evidence should be excluded under section 8. Court maintained that it was a violation: had police had suspicion (grounds of reasonable suspicion) it would have been different. Mr. oakes caught with 8 vials of hashish oil: said he purchased them for for personal use, had on him from cashing a welfare cheque. Police didn"t believe it was cash from a government cheque and also didn"t believe it was for his own use.
