Document Summary

Two slave systems: allow informaion to be coded and got in more than one way. Allow for two forms of non-compeing informaion to be worked on. Bufer to get informaion to long term memory. Duraion- lasts up to second for visual, 2-4 seconds for auditory. Memory systems comprised of mechanisms and processes which make it possible: atenion, organizaion and rich encoding of informaion, long term memory. Looking/listening isn"t as easy as you think: basketball video, looking at passes- ignoring gorilla dancing in the background. We can only capture what we atend to. We ilter out other available and maybe important informaion. Inatenional blindness- failure to noice obvious changes or events: staring right at it but not seeing it. Similar iltering/spotlighing process occurs with auditory informaion: cocktail party efect (name being heard in the background- loose all other interest in surroundings) Schema: a cluster of interrelated concepts that organized and encode general knowledge of people, objects, events and procedures.
