Most skills follow stage-like sequences: age of acquiring skill varies, sequence does not, some have u-shaped funcion. Children are not adults in miniature": thinking changes qualitaively", natural- born scienists", acively explore & seek to understand their world. World represented symbolically through words and mental images. Easily perform basic mental operaions involving tangible problems and situaions. Oten have diiculty with problems that requires abstract reasoning. Can think logically about concrete & abstract problems. Informaion-processing approaches: development is coninual and gradual, not stage like, cogniive growth occurs as informaion processing abiliies gradually become more eicient.
