Zygote is created, rapidly multiplying cells and within 7 days it attaches itself to the uterine wall. Placenta begins to form: structure that allows oxygen and nutrients to pass into the fetus from the mother"s bloodstream, and bodily wastes to pass out to the mother. Lasts from 2 weeks until 8 weeks. Vital organs begins to form in the now called embryo e. g. heart, spine brain. 2. 5 cm long at the end of this stage. Very vulnerable stage any problems in this process can be devastating e. g. structural birth defects. First 2 months rapid body growth; muscles and bones begin to form. Age of viability: somewhere between 22 and 26 weeks where a baby can survive in the event of a premature birth. Mother"s eating habits, drug use, physical heath, etc. can affect pre-natal development.
