N-back task: subjects see a series of words or faces, have to indicate if they see a stimulus in the 3 items previously (ie. 3-back task) Lures: also used items that were seen either 2 or 4 items previously (not the right position) Tend to respond to the lures so we must exhibit interference control (ie. suppress response) Correlation btwn bold response when lures are processed and fluid intelligence: higher your response to lures, higher your fluid intelligence. Lot of the action in lpfc (lateral prefrontal cortex) Plot gf factor (fluid), higher the scores, better you are at not screwing up. Now looking at working memory span: increased suppression lure activity = increased working memory span. Going to have external and internal factors. External = community, quantity, risk, delay, cost.
