Organizational behaviour (ob) study of what people think, feel, and do in and around organizations. Group versus team you all have a common goal. Physician and health worker have a same goal of patient safety. Ob emerged as a distinct field around the early 1940s: after wwii, ob became a formalized science. Organizations have been studied longer: plato leadership, confucius ethics, leadership, elton mayo human relations school. Helps us make sense of and predict our world: question personal beliefs/assumptions, adopt more accurate models of workplace behaviour. Better predict based on tools who is best for a job. Ob and the bottom line: ob practices affect organization"s survival and success. Doing well financially, the workers are highly engaged. Consumers: quality of the service or the product. If the employees are dissatisfied, the consumer will feel it. Predicting organizational behaviour and events: analysis oriented. Explaining organizational behaviour and events in organizations: analysis oriented. Managing organizational behaviour which includes influencing organizational events: action-oriented.
