Document Summary

First five books of the hebrew bible is part of the torah (important text of judaism) About the relationship between god and humanity which is also highlighted in. Christianity calls this (first few books of the bible) the old testament. Genesis: collection of different writings from different people (no one author) Genesis 2: 6-5th century bce (before common era) Emphasis: majesty of god, he is everything. God creates adam (man) out of earth, becomes man through god breathing into him. Man=lonely, so he created animals but it wasn"t satisfying. He takes a rib out of adam to create eve (meaning mother) Used to argue in some jewish and christian communities that man is superior (thought process may have changed today) Emphasizes/models heterosexual relationships which was god"s intention. Tradition: no homosexuality because of one man and one woman. Refer to god as yahweh but too holy to say his name so yhwh.
