Document Summary

I have decided to focus my studies on the influences of traditional eastern buddhism, and more specifically, japanese zen buddhism has on modern western psychology with an emphasis of psychoanalysis. My goal for my capstone project is to understand the two different methodologies used by zen practitioners and psychoanalysis patients used in order to help one reach the objective of relieving suffering in their life. It is very interesting to see the different methods used to reach the same end goal. First i would like to break down my research by explaining each topic individually. Zen buddhism, i am concentrating my attention towards the story of siddhartha, who would one day be known as gautama buddha. I am also focusing on dharma, which are the teachings of. Buddha and more specifically his teachings on the four noble truths. The four noble truths are realities about suffering and the teachings of how to rid of this problem.
