Affects our orientations to life and the way we see the world. Does not refer to individuals: way of ranking large groups of people into a hierarchy that shows their relative privileges. People are divided into layers according to their relative power, property, and prestige. Africans: slave owners developed an ideology that slaves were inferior, total of 1132 slaves were transported to new france, most slaves were family servants, did not take place in canada because of short growing seasons and high. Global stratification and women: gender cuts across all systems of social stratification, people are sorted into categories and given different access to good things available.
