When we talk about image we are not just talking about how you look or how you dress. There is a lot more to image than just this. Image also has to do with how we communicate, how we behave, how we carry ourselves in specific contexts (e. g. , at a restaurant, in a meeting) and of course, how we dress. The four main attributes of a professional image include: effective communications; appropriate personal behaviour; use of suitable manners and etiquette; and appropriate professional appearance. As you may imagine, or perhaps you can relate to a personal example of this, how you present and carry yourself in professional settings can have many implications. These include: selection for participation on project teams; inclusion in social settings with customers or clients; selection for presentations; promotions to positions of greater responsibility; performance ratings; and overall competitiveness in numerous situations. Students do not always think about the importance of having good professional etiquette.
