Indigenous Women
-many indigenous women say they need to find a way to take care of one another, they
approached white explorers and said told them that they want to work together and will teach
other their languages, etc. Indigenous women were able to teach the white to use every single
part of a dead animal in their lives.
-Indigenous women were seen as the way to survival.
-White women were learning to make clothing to survive the winters, springs and falls.

-When they arrived there was nothing there, just empty land
-the idea of women being frail and incompetent was not there because women were in the fields
and building the homes trying to help provide heat and food.

-young boys left the farms because the land wasn't big enough
-the industrial revolution, women are wondering where it leaves them because they are not
allowed to work and they have no money, their fathers don't want them to stick around so
young women leave and travel to areas to have relationships with men
-1800’s = emerging of factories and people moving into urban centres
-If a women was deemed to be disobedient, she would be forced into a basement or closet and
she would have to stay there until a supervisor decides that she had been disciplined enough,
and she was told that she was bad for taking jobs and working away from men
-Women are paid virtually nothing for the jobs they do
-Indigenous women come to talk to white women again, the result is an analysis of why it is
happening and what they can do that
-in the 1800’s, milk was considered the one source of nutrient that you could bring to your
families
-what it means to be female is to be utterly passive because you are weaker and you must stay
in the house and you cannot leave because it is the only safe place for them.
